Design Planning Tips: The Art of Making Compromises

As if remodeling projects weren’t stressful enough, clashes between your design tastes and your partner’s can further complicate the planning stage. Navigating negotiations about the design plan is tricky. But there are a few ways to make the ordeal easier.

You Must Compromise

Just to be clear here, there’s no avoiding a few compromises with your partner. The trick is finding pieces that have universal appeal, which minimizes clashes in tastes. There’s nothing wrong with choosing visually distinct style pieces, of course. But it will make it harder for the two of you to settle on a compromise.

Choose Neutral Colors

One of the first things you and your partner will need to decide on is the color scheme. It would be a good idea to stick to soft neutral colors. They have a universal appeal; it’s hard to find anyone that hates them. They can fit in with a variety of design styles.

One drawback, however, is their soft feel. It’s hard to hate them, but some feel they may not be able to stand out or draw enough attention. If that’s the case, you can mix and match neutrals with brighter shades and hues. The soft feel of neutrals enhances the visual impact of brighter hues.

Select Furniture With Clean Lines

Another frequent point of contention among couples is the furniture. We suggest choosing furniture that is made of natural materials and has clean lines. Throughout the years and through countless design trends, furniture with clean lines has become a design mainstay. Although this type of furniture is usually found in modern homes, it can integrate with just about any interior design style.

Coming up with a design plan that you and your partner will love takes a lot of energy, which you’ll need for other parts of the renovation process. To help make the renovation more manageable, we recommend consulting a professional.

Ritco Group offers a wide range of remodeling services, including roofing services. To schedule consultation, call us at (931) 208-2300, or fill out this form. We serve homeowners in Columbia, Franklin and Brentwood, TN.
