The small bumps you see on your asphalt shingles pose no immediate threat to your roof, at least for now. These bumps are called roof blisters, which will eventually pop and damage your roof.

Ritco Group, Inc., your go-to company for renovation roofing in the state, lists the causes of these blisters and shares some tips on preventing them below.
The Main Causes
Blisters are caused by two factors: moisture and extreme heat. Manufacturer defects or shoddy installation work may leave pockets in your roof. Rainwater may eventually work its way into these pockets. Over time, the sun heats them up, causing the trapped moisture to evaporate and form blisters on the surface of asphalt shingles. Other factors, such as poor roof ventilation, can heighten the risk of blisters.
Mitigating and Preventing Damage
If there are many blisters, then you need to have a residential or commercial roofing contractor replace the affected shingles before the blisters pop.
Given that you can only mitigate potential damage once blisters start forming on your roof, prevention is the best way to deal with this issue. Making sure your attic is well-ventilated is a good start. But the best way to prevent roof blisters is through proper roof installation and frequent inspections.
A properly installed roof is unlikely to have any pockets where rainwater can accumulate. This doesn’t completely erase the risk of blisters, however. Water can still find its way into pockets through cracks that can form over time. That’s why you also need roof inspections and maintenance; these will ensure relatively minor problems can be fixed before they balloon into bigger and more costly problems.
